Home Sweet Home

Well, finally back home for good. Interesting 7 months I spent in El Paso. It was 106 the day before I left and I remember thinking as I got on the plane that it sure would be nice getting out of this heat until I stepped off the plane and so rudely reminded that it is much more uncomfortable here in the lowcountry at 85 that it was in El Paso at 106. Anyway, back to routine. No more 12 hour days 6 and 7 days a week(at least for now) and right back in my old job just like I never left.

Looking forward to the neighborhood bbq later on this evening down on the river but mainly today I am giving thanks to fifty six men who met in a small room in Philadelphia back in 1776 to decide on what to do about a king that had overstayed his welcome and become tyrannical in his rule of these subjects so far away across the Atlantic.  Through much debate and deliberation and finally by unanimous vote(save for New York who abstained), the decision was made to cast off the chains of tyranny and declare this a free nation. They all full well knew they had just signed their death warrant

Of course this had all been put in motion by the Stamp Act of 1775 which basically was the last straw for the majority of the Colonists. They realized they had two choices. They could continue under the oppression of the thrown risk everything and declare their freedom. It took until 1783 for the king to finally figure out that his attempt to reign in the rebellious colonies was in vein.

So here we today some 236 years later and we are still a sovereign nation, although and very very different one than I am sure our founders had envisioned. We survived the near self destruction of  the civil war and by shear luck have survived a 100 year attempt by the Progressives to change this from a Republic to  something completely unrecognizable as a free nation.

When you see the stars and stripes today, stop for a minute and remember all the sacrifices our founding fathers made and the sacrifices of millions of patriots over the last 236 years to keep that flag flying. With the blessings of almighty God we will see another 236 years God bless you all and God bless this great nation we call home.
